MVWA to Replace Two Water Valves in East Utica

 

Tuesday, June 26, 2007, 10:00 AM:  The Mohawk Valley Water Authority (MVWA) will shut down the water supply for segments of streets in East Utica (see attached map) beginning at 8:00 AM on Monday, July 2, 2007. The MVWA will replace two large failed water valves. Water service will be unavailable until approximately 7:00 PM. The rain date for this work will be the following day.

 

Residents of these streets will be without water. They will also notice discolored water once repairs are made. Residents are advised NOT to drink or prepare food with the discolored water and NOT to use the hot water because this could pull sediment into the hot water heater.

 

The streets that won’t have water are:

 

Square St. (between Brinkerhoff and Taylor);

Arthur St. (between Brinkerhoff and Conkling);

James St. (between Seymour and Mohawk);

Brinckerhoff Ave. (between Square and south of James);

Taylor Ave. (between Leah and south of James);

the northern half of Dudley Ave. (between James and Pleasant);

the northern half of Conkling Ave. (between James and Pleasant);

the northern half of Saint Agnes Ave. (between James and Pleasant);

the northern half of Clementian St. (between James and Steele); and

Sulzer Pl.

 

Because of the long time period involved with this work, the MVWA advises that customers living in the area to be shut down to boil any water before consuming it until laboratory testing verifies that the water is safe for consumption. Boiling should be rigorous for a minimum of two full minutes. Information about the water lab test results can be obtained by calling 792-0301 after 12:00 PM, on July 5^th. In lieu of boiling water, customers are advised to store water for cooking and consumption before 8:00 AM on July 2nd.

 

After the water mains are refilled, the Water Authority will clear discolored water from the water mains. Flushing may take several hours. If customers notice discolored water coming from the cold water tap after 7:00 P.M., they should run their cold water line for five minutes. If the cold water does not clear in that time, customers should wait an hour and then try again.
