Meter Reading FAQ'S

What happens if the pointer lands directly on a number?

If your pointer lands directly on a number, you need to refer to the next dial. For example, Dial #4, pictured above, shows the pointer directly landing on the “7,” in this situation, you would look at Dial #5 and decipher whether the pointer is before or after the “0.” If the pointer were past the “0,” then it would be the higher number or the number that it landed on. If the pointer were lower than the “0,” then you would record the lower digit.

What should I do if I suspect a leak?

If you think you might have a leak in your home, your first obligation would be to go to your meter, and locate your One Foot Dial. If you know that you are not physically running any water, and your One Foot Dial is in motion, then you most likely have a leak somewhere in your home. If this is the case, please give our Customer Service Department a call at 315.792.0301 to report the problem. You can also e-mail us at cservice@mvwa.us .
